Derek Frank here, I’m a professional bass player living in Los Angeles. A significant portion of my income comes from recording bass tracks on peoples songs, albums, demos, etc.. During my first few years as a session bass player in LA, I would travel around to various recording studios to play on people’s tracks. When someone had a recording project, it was almost always necessary for them to book a pro studio, which was often a rather costly endeavor. The studio, of course, would charge a per-hour rate, and the producer/artist would also have to pay an engineer, and pay whatever studio musicians they chose to hire. This could get very expensive, and this was almost always the way it was done, until a few years ago. Computer-based recording systems, or Digital Audio Workstations, eventually became quite affordable, and more and more people started making their albums at their home studios. I found that I was making less trips to big recording studios, and more trips to peoples homes to record bass tracks. Then about two or three years ago, a friend asked me if I could record bass tracks on a bunch of songs they were writing. On his suggestion, to save time, he sent me MP3s and I laid down the bass at my home studio. When finished with the tracks, I just emailed them back, and it all seemed to work quite well. As I started to spread the word about my ability to record at home and send out my bass tracks online, more people seemed interested in having me play on their projects in this manner. I was doing this mainly for clients in the Los Angeles area, but then I thought “hey, I could be doing this for people all over the world, not just in LA!”. So, I created a website to spread the word about my ability to record custom bass tracks online, and BassTracksOnline.com was born! Bass Tracks Online was created to offer songwriters, composers, producers, bands, engineers, and other music professionals a simple and affordable way to add solid, tasty, REAL custom bass tracks to their songs. These days, project studios are easy to put together, and more and more people are getting into the art of home recording. However, not everyone has the means to get the right bass parts on their projects… i.e., a professional studio bass player. Perhaps you’re a multi-instrumentalist, but your bass skills are a bit too limited for the song you are currently working on… or maybe you don’t personally know any bass players worthy of your music… or it might be that you simply want to get great bass tracks on your project without leaving the confines of your comfy studio, and you don’t feel like hiring someone to come to you, paying their cartage, etc. In any case, bass tracks online provides the perfect solution to these woes of bass-deprived home recording.
